What Is COPD & How We Can Help

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive disease that makes it hard to breathe. COPD can cause coughing as well as large amounts of mucus, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and other symptoms.

COPD develops slowly. Symptoms often worsen over time and can hamper your ability to do routine activities. Severe COPD may prevent you from doing even basic activities like walking, cooking or taking care of yourself. There is no cure for COPD, nor is it possible to reverse the damage to the airways and lungs. However, treatments and lifestyle changes can help you manage this chronic condition so that you feel better, stay active and slow the progress of the disease.

The Sun Health Center for Health & Wellbeing complements the medical treatment prescribed by your physician by offering education and support to help you confidently manage this chronic condition. As a Center client, you will learn to self-monitor and manage your COPD with proper nutrition, physical activity and other healthy behavior changes.

Our unique and multi-dimensional Health & Wellbeing Assessment helps identify actions, education and lifestyle modifications that can benefit you. Our health team will work with you to develop a personalized action plan that includes realistic goals and actions targeted to improve your health, wellbeing and quality of life.

The goals of COPD education include:

  • Learning ways to reduce your symptoms
  • Slowing the progress of the disease
