Pre-Diabetes Signs, Treatment & Support
Pre-diabetes is a condition in which a person’s blood sugar level is higher than normal, but it’s not yet high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes. Still, without intervention, pre-diabetes is likely to become type 2 diabetes in 10 years or less. Those with pre-diabetes often do not realize the severity of their condition. The risk of damage to the heart and circulatory system may already be occurring.
There is good news, however. A diagnosis of pre-diabetes can be an opportunity for you to improve your health. With healthy lifestyle changes — such as eating healthy foods, including physical activity in your daily routine and maintaining a healthy weight — a pre-diabetic person may be able to bring blood sugar levels back to normal and prevent conversion to type 2 diabetes.

The Sun Health Center for Health & Wellbeing offers education and support to help pre-diabetics make lifestyle modifications such as increased physical activity and improved nutrition to live healthy in spite of pre-diabetes. Making these kinds of changes can also prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes.
Our unique and multi-dimensional Health & Wellbeing Assessment helps to identify actions, education and lifestyle modifications that can benefit you. Then, your health team works with you to develop a personalized action plan to guide the setting of realistic goals that will positively impact your wellbeing and maximize your quality of life.
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
A nutritional assessment and one-on-one counseling from a registered dietitian.
A personalized exercise action plan, including exercise education and demonstration, is developed in consultation with an exercise physiologist/certified health coach.
An evidence-based education and support program that addresses the adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. During this year-long program which includes 16 core classes followed by monthly maintenance classes, participants learn, practice and adopt a healthier lifestyle by implementing nutrition strategies, setting activity goals and problem solving.
